Borja Quiza, baritone
By Walter AttanasiBorn in Ortigueira, La Coruña, in 1982, the Spanish baritone began his singing education with Teresa Novoa, Mª Dolores Travesedo and Renata Scotto, deepening later in the study of the vocal technique with the Argentinian tenor Daniel Muñoz. He won the “Opera Actual” prize for best young lyric singer in 2009. In 2010 he was awarded the “Premio Lírico Teatro Campoamor de Oviedo” for best zarzuela singer. In 2009 he took part in the film Io, Don Giovanni, from the well-known Spanish director Carlos Saura, where he plays the part of Don Giovanni.
He has performed at all the major opera houses in Spain: Teatro Real, Teatros del Canal y Auditorio Nacional de Madrid, Gran Teatre del Liceu and Auditori in Barcelona, Palau de les Arts in Valencia, Festival de Amigos de La Ópera y Festival Mozart in La Coruña, Teatro Arriaga y Palacio Euskalduna in Bilbao, Kursaal and Teatro Victoria Eugenia de San Sebastián, Teatro Pérez Galdós in Las Palmas, Teatro Gayarre and Baluarte in Pamplona, Teatro Maestranza in Sevilla, Teatro Campoamor in Oviedo, Teatro Calderón in Valladolid, etc. Out of Spain he has performed in Teatro La Fenice di Venezia, Teatro Carlo Felice di Genova, Theater an der Wien, Teatro Comunale di Bologna, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia di Roma, Auditorium di Milano, Luciano Pavarotti di Módena, , New Israeli Opera de Tel-Aviv, Festival Belcanto de Knowlton (Montreal), Opera de Colombia, amongst others.
Quiza has worked with such outstanding conductors as Jurowsky, López Cobos, Kent Nagano, Vasil Petrenko, Christophe Rousset, Ivor Bolton, Josep Pons, Alberto Zedda, Eliau Inbal, Antonello Allemandi, Miquel Ortega, etc, and stage directors, such as Mario Martone, Damiano Michieletto, Joan Font, Daniele Abbado, Emilio Sagi, Debrah Warner, Giancarlo Del Monaco, Lluís Pasqual, Gustavo Tambascio, Calisto Bieito, Andreas Homoki, Paco Azorín, etc.
At his young age, Borja Quiza accumulates a large number of performances of a vast repertoire and has become one of the emerging figures of international lyric thanks tohis profound study of singing technique and interpretation.
