Gea Garatti completed her musical studies, at the G.B. Martini Conservatory in Bologna, her hometown, and at the Conservatory of Santa Cecilia in Rome. After working as assistant Choir Director with many important Maestros she started her own career as principal Choir Director. From 2000 to 2011, as Choir Director, at the Rome Opera House, she signed 16 productions, including the Japan tour in the Biwako Hall and thep Theatres of Otsu, Bunkamura Hall and NHK in Tokyo. Between 2003 and 2005 she was invited by the Teatro Comunale di Bologna and the Teatro di Tradizione “Luglio Musicale” in Trapani, as Choir Director for several productions. From 2008 to 2014 she follows the concert paths of the Giuseppe Verdi Choir in Rome with which she embarked on an intense work both in opera and symphony repertoires, with the participation in the Memorial Concert, broadcast on RAI 1, for the commemoration of the victims of September 11, 2001, preparing the Stabat Mater of G. Rossini, directed by M. Paolo Olmi In 2014 he founded the International Opera Choir, a new, multiple-voiced team, open to young singers from all nations who want to deepen the great choral repertoire in its various and magnificent expressions. The IOC performed for the first time to the public at the Pacem in Terris concert on November 28, 2014, supported by the Carla Fendi Foundation in the frame of st. John’s Basilica in Lateran. She conducted the International Opera Choir at the 58th, 59th, 60th and 61st Spoleto Festival for the inaugural works. After being appointed a member of the Commission, at the Church of Saint Eustache in Paris, for the Organistic Competition of the same name, the year 2015 ended with The Barber of Seville at the Teatro Argentina in Rome on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the first performance in the same Theatre in which it saw the light. At the 60th Spoleto Festival, in 2017 he led the I.O.C. Choir in the performance of the premiere of Silvia Colasanti’s Requiem, broadcasted live by Radio 3, with the Italian Youth Orchestra, under the baton of Maxime Pascal. From September 2017 to June 2018 she was appointed as Choir Director, at the Teatro Massimo “Vincenzo Bellini” in Catania, where she participated in the inauguration of the 2018 Season, with La Rondine by Giacomo Puccini, directed by Gianluigi Gelmetti, in the presence of the President of the Italian Republic Sergio Mattarella, From September 2018 she took over the leadership of the Choir of the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples, leading the Choir on the trip to Bangkok with Maestro Zubin Mehta and in the one in Matera (Capital of Culture 2019), with Cavalleria Rusticana directed by Maestro Juraj Valcuha. In her many years of experience in several Italian Lyric Theatres a vast repertoire of operas and sacred-symphonic works performed under the direction of great conductors such as Nello Santi, Daniel Oren, Zoltan Pesko, Peter Maag, Yuri Ahronovitch, Bruno Bartoletti, Gianluigi Gelmetti, Gary Bertini, Donato Renzetti, Jeffrey Tate, , Bruno Campanella, Gunther Neuhold, Steven Mercurio, Alain Lombard, Gabriele Ferro, Michele Mariotti , Pinchas Steinberg, Daniele Gatti, Riccardo Muti, Zubin Mehta, Juraj Valcuha. She has also collaborated with directors such as Hugo de Ana, Peter Stein, Franco Zeffirelli, Graham Vick, Mario Martone, Damiano Michieletto, La Fura dels Baus, Leo Muscato, Lorenzo Mariani, Davide Livermore, Pier’Alli, Willy Decker, Terry Gilliam, Ferzan Ozpetek, Marco Bellocchio. |
