Simon Krečič, conductor

Simon Krečič completed his piano studies at the Ljubljana Academy of Music in 2002, as the last grandaunt of Professor Aci Bertoncelj, and pursued his postgraduate piano studies at the Bern University of Arts with Professor Aleksandar Madžar. In September 2012, he graduated in conducting under Professor Milivoj Šurbek with the première and nine performances of the Ballet Evening Stravinsky (Les Noces, Pulcinella, Apollon Musagete), a production of the Opera and Ballet of the Slovene National Theatre in Ljubljana. During his postgraduate studies in Switzerland, he also studied conducting under Professor Dominique Roggen, and conducted several Swiss orchestras. In the season 2006/2007, he worked as a répétiteur at the Opera of the Slovene National Theatre of Maribor. In 2008 he won a prize on the international conducting competition in Grosseto in Italy. 

Since March 2009, when he conducted a concert within the Slovenian Music Days, he has been a regular at the Slovene Philharmonic, which he conducted on several occasions with important soloists (Eugene Indjic, Aleksandar Madžar, Wonji Kim Ozim, Dubravka Tomšič Srebotnjak). In the last couple of years, he has been working closely with the RTV Slovenia Symphony Orchestra, Prague Philharmonic Orchestra and Hungarian Savaria Orchestra. 

Simon Krečič is also known as a conductor of contemporary music. He has conducted several concerts at the Slowind Festival in Slovenia and abroad (Paris, Riga). In 2014 he conducted Rossini’s Barbiere di Siviglia at the opera festival “Opera in piazza” in Oderzo Italy and in 2015 he conducted Verdi’s Macbeth at the Teatro Verdi in Pisa , and a very successful ballet performance at Dubrovnik summer festival “Dubrovačke lijetne igre” with SNG Maribor ballet. (C. Debussy: Faun, R. Ščedrin: Carmen). In 2016 and 2017 he conducted Verdi’s I Masnadieri at the Verdi festival in Busseto (Teatro regio di Parma). In 2017 Simon Krečič conducted Wagner’s Das Rheingold in Maribor, Rossini’s La Cenerentola in Ljubljana, Verdi’s Un Ballo in Maschera in China (Tian Jin, Harbin grand theatre), Puccini’s Tosca in Rovigo. In 2018 he conducted Donizetti’s La Fille du Regiment in Teatro Verdi in Trieste, Weber’s Freischütz at “Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg” in Germany. His recent opera productions were Puccini’s Turandot in Rovigo and Ferrara , Donizetti’s L’Elisir d’Amore in Trieste and Tchaikovsky’s Maid of Orleans in Ljubljana. Since December 2013, Simon Krečič has been Artistic Director of the Slovene National Theatre Opera of Maribor.
