Max Jota opens the season of the HNK in Split

By Walter Attanasi

Max Jota has opened the season in Split singing Turandot’s Nessun dorma, I Pagliacci’s Vesti la giubba and Tosca’s E lucevan le stelle, in a gala alongside with other wonderful colleagues.

From this gala concert we bring Max’s shining performance of Tosca’s E lucevan le stelle, where he displays his warm and solar sound together with the mediteranean passion of the poor Cavaradossi remembering his lover Tosca before his execution.

Max will sing later on this season I lombardi and Un ballo in Maschera at Split HNK.

The audience was particularly taken over by Max Jota, with the first  aria “E lucevan le stelle”. It was with Jota that the most notable power of transformation was, and despite the concert form, the tenor also brought out a layered characterization of the character in every aria. In “Recitar… Vesti la giubba,” aria from Leoncavall’s opera “I Pagliacci”, voice, mimic and body movement, managed to build a stage setting, draw an imaginary costume and makeup, gradually conjuring an operatic performance. In “Nessun dorma” from Puccini’s “Turandot,” Jota shifted his focus to the character’s introspection, drawing the audience into the emotional, restless torrent of Calaf.
